Thank you Amy Shumer for helping us laugh and find humor in the wild changes that are happening to our mind and bodies!
And if you’ve ever found yourself standing in the kitchen wondering why you walked in there… while simultaneously fighting a hot flash… and maybe wanting to cry or bite someone’s head off…
Yep. You’re in it.
Which is exactly why I love what Amy Schumer is doing in this new campaign with Midi Health.
Because finally, we’re hearing from more and more celebrities about their own perimenopause & menopause stories and it’s helping us normalize the conversation!
In this video, Amy walks us through all the things we thought were just us:
- Brain fog
- Hot flashes
- Mood swings
- Weight gain
- Frozen shoulder
- Achey joints
- Itchy Ears (yep, I’ve got this one and it can drive you bat s%*t cazy!)
- Sleep that suddenly ghosts you
But here’s the punchline (and also not funny at all):
We were never taught this. We learned about puberty in health class.
We learned how not to get pregnant.
But no one sat us down and said, “Hey… in your 40s (or earlier), your hormones are going to shift and here’s what that actually looks like.”
So we end up wondering what the heck is going on and asking ourselves:
- “Am I doing something wrong?”
- “Why does nothing that used to work… work anymore?”
- “Is it really that I’m just getting older?
- “I swore this would never happen to me” (Yep, I remember naively thinking this when I used to train and coach women in their late 40’s and 50’s)
DID YOU KNOW…
Most women spend years in perimenopause before even realizing that’s what’s happening? This was me.
And because no one connects the dots for us, we blame ourselves instead of understanding what’s actually going on.
This is the part where I lean in and say what I tell women every single day:
This is not a willpower problem.
This is not a discipline problem.
This is a hormone shift.
And when you understand that?
Everything changes. You stop beating yourself up. You start working with your body instead of against it.
And you finally get a strategy that makes sense for this season of life—not the one you were in 10 years ago.
All Joking Aside
What Amy Schumer and Midi Health are doing is bigger than a funny video that normalizes perimenopause as a clinical health transition.
They’re:
- Normalizing the conversation
- Calling out the gaps in women’s healthcare
- Giving women permission to say, “Wait… this deserves attention.
- Helping women validate their symptoms and not allow themselves to be gaslit by the healthcare system
And this is just the beginning.
Because women are no longer willing to:
- Feel dismissed
- Be told “this is just aging”
- Or figure it out alone
We’re asking better questions.
We’re demanding better care.
And we’re taking our health back.
If your body feels different right now…
If what used to work suddenly doesn’t…
If you feel like you’re doing “everything right” and still not getting results…
Take a breath and give yourself some grace.
You’re not crazy.
You’re not broken.
And you’re definitely not alone.
You’re evolving. You’ve made it to this beautiful age and what could be your best chapter yet.
And once you understand what’s really happening with your mind and body…you can take your power back—one simple, sustainable step at a time.
And this is what it means to be Inspired by Living Well.
